Severe overheating on video playback

  by Abhijeet (newegg.com) - Jan 2012

newegg.com

Nice compact case ; Lots of ports ; Wifi n ; Plays 1080p video without hiccups

Overheats severely during video playback with XBMC on Windows 7. Apparently, this is a known issue with Zotac GPUs. System overheats and freezes about 1hr into playback ; Sent in for RMA, hopefully the replacement works better

Great machine

HDMI Audio is not super easy to configure for the layman - but this is not the fault of ZOTAC, linux is a highly configurable beast and exposes more 'stuff' to the user. Instead of fooling around I googled it and found all kinds of things saying to...

Very small size, very cheap, very quiet. I bought this as a 'test' system to install in my bedroom before getting them for the rest of the TVs in the house. Tested a 720p mkv file in VLC last night and it was perfect, although youtube was not so good...

Horrible WIFI. Not a big deal for me, because I have multiple Cat6 drops in every room, but I tested it anyways and I was only getting 500kb/s with connections dropping and reconnecting (WRT350N AP is on far side of house, WPA2 using AES). My MacBook...

Great for XBMC HTPC!

  by ClamsTheCat (newegg.com) - Dez 2011

newegg.com

Very happy with my purchase.

Just works out of the box. All you have to do is plug it in, and install your favourite OS and Media Center software. I went with Ubuntu/XBMC, and 1080p h264/mkv video plays without flaws with only 5% CPU usage. Its a little more expensive than other...

I wish this bundle had a tiny solid state drive instead; just enough for an OS. Most people are using this for an HTPC and I think that would have made it even better

Fantastic HTPC

  by philw132 (newegg.com) - Aug 2011

newegg.com

I bought this product believing it had a DVD+R/RW drive based on newegg's advertisement "Zotac ZBOXHD-ID40-PLUS Intel Atom D525 CPU 1.8 GHz Dual-Core Next-generation NVIDIA ION DVD+R/RW w/ 2GB RAM, 250G HDD, WiFi All-in-One Mini PC". Once i opened up...

Compact, powerful handles HD video without a problem

very difficult to get sound working on Kubuntu/Ubuntu Linux you must install pulseaudio and mess with a few settings. Works great with XBMC media center

Great overall HTPC

  by i700plus (newegg.com) - Mär 2011

newegg.com

This machine is perfect for a HTPC. Its small and cheap when compared to building a full HTPC. This saved me over $250 dollars over building one from parts and It runs awesome with the Nvidia graphics. I searched and searched for Zotac PC's and ended...

1. The WiFi on this model does not appear to be an issue. I was able to stream 720p from my Nas with no problems in Windows Media Center ; 2. This thing is very quiet. I have a 250gb 5400RPM drive in it right now and unless I put my head next to it I...

1. Be careful. the Thumbscrews that hold the case on are not attached by little brackets to keep them from falling out when unscrewing them. I dropped one and had to search for it in my couch for about 10 minutes ; 2. The machine does run a little on...

Don't use as a HTPC

  by Mike (newegg.com) - Jan 2011

Small form factor ; VERY quiet ; Great selection of outputs

Even with the higher end Atom processor, streaming video from Hulu and Netflix was not smooth. The video was jerky enough that after a few minutes, it bothered your eyes

Nice Mini PC

  by DanDaMan (newegg.com) - Jan 2011

newegg.com

using 2 short fan mounting screws, secured the PC bracket to the monitor stand.Besides the bracket problem, most of the drivers are out dated on Zotac's web site, some of the drivers date back to 2007. I went to Nvidia's web site, and to Realtek's web...

Small, runs quiet, decent video and speed for a 1.8 GHz CPU

The monitor mounting bracket. The instructions are not very clear and you have to look hard at the illustrations to figure out that it is made for LCD monitors that have the existing stand mounted on the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately, not all...

Love my Zbox WMC

  by SeanWo (newegg.com) - Dez 2010

newegg.com

I use this as a WMC pc with a dual Silcon Dust ATSC tuner and 2 * Hauppauge 1192 WinTV HVR-1950 for NTCS tuners used with my DirectTV SD. I have a 2TB eSATA drive connected. I can record 4 shows and playback 3 previously recorded HD shows on my...

Easy setup and no driver conflicts with Win7 x64. Runs well as a WMC as long as all tuners do hardware encodign. I have not tried the hdmi since I view the shows via extenders. This nettop is not going to break any speed records but it is a solid...

NO FOR HDTV

  by N/A (newegg.com) - Dez 2010

newegg.com

I literally waited for a year for the ION2 net-tops to come out to replace my 4U HDTV with something small. This is small but it WILL NOT PLAY MKV or X264 files. If you plan to watch HD movies or TV shows from the box build out a real PC. I with this...

small box. that's about it

Will not play HD files smoothly. MKV and X264 files play smoother on an ancient AMD 800MHZ system with a 128MB video card. The build on this is with an SSD, 4GB RAM and still cannot get smooth playback. To top it off the system gets VERY hot. Too hot...

WIFI works well on this Zotac model.

  by xyzzy (newegg.com) - Dez 2010

newegg.com

The dual WIFI antennas, one mounted on the inside front of the case, the other on the inside top work quite well as I mounted the Zotac vertically, so one antenna is horizontal and the other vertical. (MIMO) Would be nice to include Internal Bluetooth...

I was a little apprehensive regarding the WIFI performance when I read the reviews for the earlier Zotac model MAG HD-ND01. Then I checked their web site and noticed that under the driver download area that this model used a different chipset driver,...

Not a problem with the actual Zotac product, however beware that 64 bit Ubuntu kernals greater than 2.6.33 do not work with the imbedded WIFI RayLink RT2860 chipset. The latest 32 bit kernels in the Ubuntu 10.10 or Beta 11.04 Natty Narwhal releases do...
