Verizon Wireless Network Extender - Review of the Verizon Wireless Network Extender

  by John Brandon (laptopmag.com) - Apr 2009

Easy setup, Works as promised, One-time fee

Does not extend data and EV-DO coverage

The Verizon Wireless Network Extender is no impulse purchase-at $249, it costs more than most phones on Verizon's network. Yet it works-and without any service fees. For any Verizon Wireless customer trying to get a signal in remote areas, the Extender...

Verizon Wireless Network Extender

The Verizon Wireless Network Extender does help to improve voice reception and signal strength. There are no monthly fees.

The Verizon Wireless Network Extender is a little pricey and it does not improve data or EV-DO coverage.

If you live in an area with poor Verizon Wireless coverage and have a home broadband network, the Verizon Wireless Network Extender will work to improve your signal strength.

I got this thing for Father's Day, 2010. I have very poor Verizon signal, at home. I have 9 friends who are also on the Verizon Network. Their cell Phones link to the device with no problem and provides excellent signal, all throught the house

It does not work with my Blackberry Storm 9350. Still waiting on Verizon to call me back. Samsung said "Call Verizon". Verizon siad "we will call you back in 4 or 5 days. we don't know why it won't work". It's been 2 days and I have heard nothin

Verizon personal do not seem to know this dev...

Easy Setup, Works as advertised, providing Voice coverage to my home that otherwise would have no signal. Good call quality, But has a latency issues (pause) when you call someone that is ALSO connected to a Network Extender

Does not provide EVDO access. Why not? My Phone battery still dies trying to get an EVDO signal. Trying to use my phone for data does not work threw this connection, only making voice calls. Can NOT restrict use to ONLY the assigned number(s)

When I purchased my new HTC Incredible, I was...

Compact, work as advertised, extend coverage to places where it was weak before

Need to place near a window, can't be in a central location of the home, calls can go from the network extender to an external cell tower but not from an external cell tower to the network extender without being disconnected

My wife and I are long time Verizon customers...

Easy to setup, great price (it's on sale and a 100 mail in rebate is being offered, along with free overnight shipping!) Excellent clarity of calls

Won't switch a call to the extender if you come in from outside (you need to hang up and call them back), the call sometimes takes up to 5 seconds to start transmitting voice to your cell from a call

Quote from Verizon web page about the Network...

Great idea if product use could be absolutely restricted to the product owner's cell phone(s). According to Verizon FAQ quoted below, owner cannot 100% restrict use

Owner cannot 100% restrict use. When priority users aren't using the device, apparently it will allow any user (your neighbors) to use it. YOUR broadband will be used even by neighbors close enough, though they did not pay the $250 for the extender
