I got got a very similar Edimax device to this 3 years or so ago (Edimax EW-7318USG Wireless USB LAN Adapter 4dBi Antenna, 802.11b.g 54Mbps) for my son's Acer Aspire L100 XP version non-wireless desktop PC. this version probably over-rides it....

I could not see any difference in wi-fi range using this adapter. When I phoned Edimax I was told I should get 2 to 3 times the range. When installing the driver it did not confirm sucessful installation. All in all would not recommend it.

You must insert the CD and load the SW when you have plugged the Edimax into the usb port, real easy. Does not self find and show new HD installed, So load the CD with the Edimax first and then you are up and running
