Great Enclosure for the price

Fast throughput for external ; put in 4 Seagate Green 2TB drives @ 5900 RPM's in Raid 5 ; HD Tune 2.55 ; Min: 170.9 MB/sec ; Max: 202.4 MB/sec ; Ave: 188.8 MB/sec ; Access Time: 13.9ms ; Burst Rate: 137.4 MB/sec

Im not sure what the back dip switches are for as they do nothing. I tried configuring the raid through the dip switches but nothing happened. I ended up using the eSata RocketRaid 622 card rather then USB and then using Raid Monitor Utility to...

AMAZING!!!!

We always connect to these over eSATA. Sometimes, they will show right up. Sometimes we have to reboot. Mac Pro 10.6.8.

We own 5 of these, and they are GREAT! I would NEVER go back to a Web-GUI-interface for setting up RAID ; This hardware RAID requires no drivers, and always mounts properly. Make sure to follow the directions for RAID setup. Having a hot-spare is not...

One in five had a manufacturing defect on the front plastic panel, which Sans Digital has offered to replace. Hmmm... now we just need a place to temporarily store that 12TB ; eSATA PCIe card only has two ports, instead of four. Kind of a waste of a...

Great once I got it working !

I love the capability this tower provides. It's like having a 200 MBPS "thumb drive" that can be connected via USB 2.0/3.0 or eSATA to any machine. I decided to ignore my set-up problems when assigning a 5 star rating because I see few others seem to...

This cabinet allows attachment of 5 drives to any computer via either USB 2.0/3.0 or eSATA without requiring software or drivers on the attached machine. I loaded mine with 5 x Samsung Spinpoint F4EG 2 TB SATA2 5400rpm 32 MB Hard Drive HD204UI/Z4 to...

I had some difficulty getting the tower set-up properly. I assumed I only needed to set the switches on the back then power up while pressing the reset button to configure the unit. No matter what position I put those switches in, however, the tower...

Superb

I tried and returned other enclosures before trying this one. Save yourself some money and just go with this one Full disclosure: I put this thing in a cabinet so I can't comment on its noise level. I also haven't tried it over USB 3, nor I have I...

Good design. I like the fact this has drive trays and 5 bays instead of the typical 4 ; Excellent performance. I get 230MB/s sustained read and write speeds with two RAID0 Seagate 3TB drives hooked up to a 2011 Mac Mini via its extra internal SATA6...

Excellent Product

I have 5400 rpm hd in this tower and have an occasional hiccup with blu-ray play back. I plan on getting another tower and putting in 7200 rpm hd in it to resolve this issue.

Very sturdy case. I used this in Raid 5 with 3 TB drives. The data transfer is fast in eSata. The USB 3.0 (~60MB/s) is quick but still didn't match the speed of the Sata (~100MB/s). Very easy to setup

Great Unit!

  by CrazyBill (newegg.com) - Dez 2011

I purchased a different brand /cheaper drive array first and returned it because of a laundry list of issues. This unit just plain works!

Very nice build quality. Drive trays work smoothly and click in place to let you know they're in. I didn't use the included card, just connected it to my existing eSATA connection and the system recognized it immediately

Pleased with purchase

Sans Digital has a lot of similar units. Go through the specs and make sure you're ordering exactly what you need. For me, hardware RAID was important, and I think I found the perfect solution with this enclosure.

This was my first experience setting up a RAID, so I was expecting a couple hiccups - there were none. Setup was fast and simple. I was backing up data before I knew it

A little on the expensive side, the door seems a little flimsy, and one of the screws snapped while attaching one of my drives to the slide. With that said, I still gave this unit 5 eggs over 4

for home storage

I have NO IDEA what newegg.com was thinking when they shipped this. The product packing was fine, but the way that newegg shipped it was to put the shipping stickers right onto the PRODUCT BOX! They didn't put it into a separate box. WHY!?! So 5 stars...

1) good materials/construction ; 2) installed smoothly ; 3) great speeds ; My configuration: I have five, 2TB Samsungs (5400rpm) inside, set to RAID5. I mostly get a FAST 150 MB/s write speed connected with eSATA (even with the slow 5400 hard drives)....

has hot-spare, but not hot-swappable. really not a con for me since im storing large movies, tv shows in RAID5 for some fault tolerance

Fast Easy Setup Hardware Raid

  by neorush (newegg.com) - Aug 2010

I purchased 5 WD (WD20EARS 2TB) green drives and the whole array would hang everytime a read / write operation was done. Turns out one of the drives was defective it would spin up and be detected just fine but any reads / writes would fail. The tech...

Very easy setup, drive trays slide in nicely, no fighting with the clips, shiny black finish, good number of status LEDs, there are some models without LEDS on the trays. Getting around 150 MB/sec write for the first GB and then slows to around 80...

Shiny black case pickups prints very easily. Kind of a con, but remember partitions greater than 2TB are not supported on 32-bit systems. So if your going to be using this to back up old computers you'll have a lot of wasted bays, unless you use it...

Port Multiplier doesn't work with Win7

  by N/A (newegg.com) - Aug 2010

newegg.com

PCI-E 2.0 / eSata 6Gbps is great. Enclosure is good quality & keeps drives cool

Rocket 622 card (included) doesn't work with Win7 and Port Multipliers - even though both San Digital and Highpoint claim that it is PM enabled. Only one drive is seen by Win7 ; Clean" mode (San Digitals' name for PM JBOD) simply doesn't work, at least...
