Toshiba SDP93S review

  by (cnet.com)

cnet.com

Large 9-inch screen with 800x480-pixel resolution; SD card slot; MP3, WMA; DivX playback; decent speaker performance

No USB port; included remote is a tad large

A high-res 9-inch screen, solid battery life, SD card slot, and DivX playback make this portable DVD player easy to recommend.

Toshiba SDP93S DVD Player

  by Adam Weinberg (askmen.com)

askmen.com

The portable DVD player might be a dying breed, but this Toshiba might be worth the life support.

Toshiba came to CES 2009 with a trio of new portable DVD players, the best of which being the SDP93S. This particular model is a strikingly contemporary spin on what has been, up to this point, a gadget genre in a downward spiral. With detailed...

The Toshiba SDP93s delivers on almost every possible thing you can put on a portable DVD player and for the most part delivers with clarity and quality. With the added SD card slot and capability of playing DivX files the Toshiba SDP93s outdoes many of...

A 9-inch screen makes it easy for clear movie viewing

There is no USB port on the Toshiba SDP93s

This portable DVD player is hard to beat with its heavy set of features.

"SDP93S - very good portable DVD player"

It has a sleek black and white design. Love how the screen flips like a tablet PC. Clear picture, dual earphone plugs and an SD slot for mp3's or pictures. Battery life is very good 4hour playback and of course it can play Divx/Xvid formats

Disappointed that this unit was made in 2009 and it's not SDHC compliant. A 2GB SD can barely hold 3 full divX movies

Almost a 5 star if not for the missing SDHC compatibility. Some reviewers will argue otherwise but the manual clearly states that it's only SD compatible. I plugged in my 4GB, 8GB, & 16GB SDHC but no luck it won't read the card. As far as complaints...

Who carries a 2 GB or smaller SD card these days? How hard would it have been to add SDHC? That would have made this wonderful.

Toshiba SDP93S Portable 9" DVD Player

  by chinaboat (pcworld.com) - Nov 2009

I can't understand the strong revues this player received. Online research shows you probably have a 50-50 chance of getting a player that won't make it a year.

Plays DivX format as well as DVD

As with most Toshiba portables this year. It stopped playing after it was out of its short warranty period. The controls were placed at the bottom of the screen instead of next to the disc compartment and there was no way to fast forward / reverse without

This is a piece of crap, CNET may not have known about the not widely reported failure to play discs after a short while. But how they missed the problem with the onboard control buttons is a mystery.
