Worth Every Penny

I'm the 'computer guy' for my friends & family, which means I've spent many a ruined weekend being a nice guy to people who foul up computers as a bodily function, and never, ever have the source media for a restore. I'm strongly considering buying a...

Everything about it is a 'pro' - simple installation, simple implementation, simple backups, simple network file sharing, and simple whole-box restores. Just find an old box, drop this onto it, and your life gets easier. Even if you don't take...

None, really, but the storage assimilation on the host box may throw people if they aren't prepared. Read the documentation and you'll get it

Saved the Day!

  by rayvonb (newegg.com) - Sep 2010

Today my MB crashed on one of the PCs in my home server network. I replaced the MB and HD, but went from IDE to SATA. I restored the PC from a backup on the home server with no problems. Home server saves the day! Well worth the money.

Very easy to set up, and low maintenance. Does automatic backups, and reminder to update anit-virus defs. I access the server from work quite often

I wish I had the actual hp home server. I built mine from spare parts after I purchased the software, but it works great. No cons

An elegant solution

  by Jason C (newegg.com) - Aug 2010

After my last computer upgrade, my older machine was refitted into a WHS, just needed to slap a cheapy video card in for the OS install. It's backing up two computers nightly and feeding music and videos to my Sonos Zoneplayer and PS3, which is all I...

Requires very little babysitting ; Easy to set up

Limited in what you can do out of the box, but there are plenty of add-ins available to get it to do what you want

Anyone with more than one computer should own this

  by N/A (newegg.com) - Jun 2010

I honestly believe this is one of the better purchases I've made. I didn't realize the full beauty of this until I purchased it. I mainly bought it so I could put up a home website that I could hit from various places and maybe stream some media around...

Media Streaming ; Storage ; Personal Website ; AUTOMATIC BACKUP OF YOUR COMPUTERS ; Network monitoring for viruses or other potential problems

Microsoft Windows Home Server 32 Bit 1 Pack (Power pack 1) - OEM

  by N/A (newegg.com) - Jun 2010

newegg.com

I hate to complain, because this is just a tweaked version of 2003 server for a much lower price. It's fine for average home user that just needs a file server or something like that. But, the remote console just feels gimmicky. In fact, I don't use...

Better than that dinosaur W2k your using now ; Better price than a full copy of 2003 Server

No major cons, but see below

Does not work with Win7

  by Mike (newegg.com) - Jun 2010

newegg.com

They seem to be dropping support for this product as they are coming out with a new home server based on Server 2008. As mentioned, there is no real suggestions supplied to get around the 81% problem and no help on the support web site. You can pay $79...

Is a good solution to backups and restores (see Cons) as it is easy to set up and use

Does not seem to work with my installation of Win7 (32 bit) in the sense that it is impossible to open or view a backup. All I get (along with many other people) is an error message at 81% done, "Cannot Mount Backup" when I try and open a backup. This...

Microsoft Windows Home Server 32 Bit 1 Pack (Power pack 1) - OEM

  by N/A (newegg.com) - Mai 2010

newegg.com

Great product with a lot of features for its price point. No RAID is a plus for the home server market given the implementation of folder duplication WHS uses

Would like to see more improvements with remote access. It works well, but there could be more done to improve security ; It would have been nice to buy this with Power Pack 3 included ; WHS v2 (Vail) is now in beta. You may or may not consider this a...
