Amazing little box

  by althotos (cnet.com) - Sep 2011

Despite the need to use my laptop while setting up new accounts, both free and subscription, I love this little box. I had missed the NBC nightly news on Friday, because we went out to dinner. How delightful it was to catch the whole broadcast,...

Full 1080p resolution. Easy setup and easy to use settings. Simple, intuitive menu. Many channels available for free. Very small, physical footprint

No browser. Need to use laptop/PC when setting up new accounts for both free and subscription services

No streams for it better than 720p, very little 5.1.

  by PROlenick (cnet.com) - Sep 2011

Bought this to stream 1080p into my projector and 5.1 audio into my pre-HDMI receiver (extended my wired network for the purpose) but I haven't yet found a stream for it that's better than 720p, and most are only in stereo. Amazon at least streams some...

The last Roku with an optical audio output for compatibility with pre-HDMI receivers. Should be able to stream 1080p/DD 5.1, but see below

Haven't yet found a stream for it at more than 720p, the only 5.1 streams I've found for it are from Amazon - everything else is stereo

all you need is a wireless router and internet. its so easy to use anyone could benefit from this system for live tv streaming

light weight, takes up very little room. eliminates dish or direct tv. its nice to be able to watch tv without all the commercials

it would be nice if the roku could show the free services in a separate category. other than that its great

The XDS is killer for the price.

  by codyle01 (cnet.com) - Aug 2011

cnet.com

Top notch for the price. Customer service is foreign but handled my remote case with to my standards..

Relatively cheep for what it does. Pandora,Netflix,ESPN,CNN,CNET... etc, etc... Extremely easy to set up. Almost too easy

Con:is the remote on the first gen. The scrolling sucks, I would much rather have a alphanumeric keypad. But hey beggars can be choosers. Costumer service is foreign which there for a language barrier occurred but we got through it

Awesome device

  by vrmiddle2 (cnet.com) - Jul 2011

I think that the people that complain about delays and time for setup should think about upgrading their internet speed. For probably the same price or just a small increase in fees, they could upgrade to 10mbs. We have had absolutely no problems with...

no delays ; works great with netflix ; easy/fast set up ; easy/fast set up for additional channels

many channels are worthless ; not enough children's programming

Unstable Device

  by NunzusCaesar (cnet.com) - Jul 2011

cnet.com

There must be a more stable and reliable alternative for watching Netflix etc.

When it's connected works fine

I have several wireless devices. Only the Roku is unstable. I have never had one wireless issue with any other device in the house. If one leaves for a time and powers down the modems, etc Roku has a heck of time dealing with that. Only device I have t
