Seems to Work OK - Sort of . .

Again, the problems I am experiencing could be due to my power supply, so unless these issues are a trend in these reviews, they probably aren't noteworthy.

Works great for adding SATA ports onto boards that have few of them

I don't want to say this is a problem with this card, but my system no longer suspends with this card installed. Also, I am not able to attach more than one additional drive to the system. When I attached my two older 80GB drives in RAID-0, they would...

Update to post from 1/26/2011

  by TeraMedia (newegg.com) - Aug 2011

newegg.com

I have a suspicion that there are different revisions of the SiI3114 chip and/or connected circuit, and only some of those support the RAID5 firmware upgrade.

They work in WHS (32-bit) and WHS 2011 (64-bit) with the 5.0.73 BIOS and drivers on an ASUS P5GDC-V (Intel 915G chipset)

There appears to be some kind of incompatibility between this card and the Hitachi HDS723015BLA642 1.5 TB HDDs. I have two of those and two WD15EARS-00MVWB0 (1.5 TB "Green" with advanced 4k format) drives setup in a Windows-based soft RAID 5 array. ...

Hot swap works fantastic now. I was going through the on-board controller and i would occasionally have problems booting up a drive... with this, there hasn't been one problem, thanks Rosewill

Good Product

Re-animated a legacy HP Proliant DL320 G1 server with this card, that allows to have a hardware RAID and breaks the 137GB PATA limitations. Installed Windows 2003 R2 Server, no problem. Unfortunately, no Windows 2008 drivers available.

Low Profile, PCI 2.2, 4 SATA ports, RAID

No Windows 2008 drivers

Great SATA Card

  by CalcProgrammer1 (newegg.com) - Feb 2011

I set up the RAID on the motherboard's onboard SATA ports. It had a Silicon Image 3112 chip (2 ports) and the onboard SiS controller also had 2 ports. The 3112 worked fine but the SiS controller kept disconnecting its hard drive and killing the array,...

Relatively cheap, RAID options, 4 SATA ports, reliable controller ; I installed this on an old Sempron 1600+ machine with XP Pro to run a personal server. I already had 3 1.5TB Samsung HD154UI drives in software RAID-5 and it transferred to this...

Somewhat slow, but that's to be expected with PCI interfaces. The hardware RAID options don't include RAID-5 either, but I would rather use software RAID anyways, it is not locked to a single controller

RAID5 RE-REVIEW

  by KilluminatiStyle (newegg.com) - Feb 2011

newegg.com

A few months back I had this setup with two mirrored sets and had nothing but trouble from the word go. You can find my review on this done the line. I've since grabbed the RAID5 firmware, driver, and software from Silicon Image, search for SI-3114 on...

Works great with RAID5 (SOFT) firmware from Silicon Image website ; Easy configuration

RAID5 software from Silicon Image is fugly and not laid out well (you have to drill down a menu or two in order to see drive health) ; Transfer times are still low ; Firmware upgrades had to be done to gain RAID5 and stability

Suspected of causing blue screens

  by TeraMedia (newegg.com) - Jan 2011

I got this to augment the 6 SATA ports on a Foxconn A9DA MB. I am using those for 6 HDDs in two RAID arrays, and I needed two more SATA ports for a swap drive and a BR optical drive. Initially, drives are not recognized. I tried installing the latest...

Does not need to be used in RAID mode ; Recognizes my BR ODD (an RC-218 would not)

Requires installation of drivers for O/S to see attached devices (RC-216 does not) ; MB BIOS will not recognize installed disks ; Occasional (daily) BSOD due to failure to power shut down (? something along those lines)
