The fastest NAS box we've ever tested--by a factor of two--also packs in the features for both home and office users. But the speed comes at a price.

Qnap TS-239 Pro Turbo NAS

  by Nathan Edwards (maximumpc.com) - Jan 2010

maximumpc.com

The QNAP TS-239 Pro reminds us of nothing so much as an easier-to-use version of our home-rolled FreeNAS server (January 2010). Unlike most NAS boxes we've reviewed, with their little ARM embedded processors and 512MB of RAM, the TS-239 Pro packs a...

Powerful CPU, highly configurable; locking drive bays; command line directly accessible via VGA and USB ports

Not particularly quiet. Expensive

While the web GUI is laid out differently from Synology’s, the features offered are largely the same—although the Synology DS409+ is a little more feature-rich, with iPhone apps, support for more networked cameras, etc.—and useful if you need ‘em;...

Review: QNAP TS-239 Pro Turbo NAS

  by Chris Holt (macworld.com) - Dez 2009

macworld.com

If you're an audio or video professional, IT consultant, or have prosumer level storage and security needs, QNAP's TS-239 Pro Turbo NAS might be on your wish list this holiday season.

Bounty of features

Hit-or-miss interface ; Wonky controls

NAS devices are what you make of them. The average consumer who needs a centralized storage device or a RAID solution will find the QNAP TS-239 to be a bit of overkill for their needs

Great so far.

  by N/A (newegg.com) - Nov 2011

Great value. I'm pretty happy with this. Would recommend buying this over the 459 to save the $, unless you have high-end network switches for dual-channel, and unless you're going to buy 10-15K RPM drives for extreme performance.

Quiet. Fast. Does everything I need it to do, and more. Working great as a media NAS. Filled with 4x3TB WD Green drives. They work great. (Bought 4 external drives for $100 each and ripped the drives out) ; This is a great value NAS between the 419...

Great for my needs!

  by N/A (newegg.com) - Mär 2011

Good size over raid 5. Great expandability function, a bit slow in some functionalities, but I'd have to say you are buying the software mostly with this product. Great product tho', I want to do more with it but you definately have to do quite a bit...

5.43 TB over raid 5 is massive for a home network, but the processor and memory are a bit slow for the data size

Super Fast

I wanted to test the ISCSI feature (which I have absolutely no experience with) and I was able to carve out a 700GB drive over my network and connect within just a few minutes. I was very pleased. Even over my 100Mbps network the ISCSI transfers files...

I Bought this TS-809U-RP about 7 months ago and loaded it with eight 1TB WD1002FBYS drives in RAID 6. It Has 2 Gbps Ethernet adapters but even on my 100Mbps network it screams compared to my other Win based NAS. It was very easy to setup and use, it's...

The one thing that REALLY bites about this unit is that folder permissions can only be set at the root level of the share. Maybe it's a limitation of the Linux OS, i dunno. I wanted to create a single shared folder named users then create a sub folder...

Overall pretty impressed

  by Imnitguy (newegg.com) - Mai 2010

I know I haven't owned this unit long - but having owned another "Pro" Qnap turbo NAS I feel quite confident this unit will perform as well or better than my personal unit. So If you need up to 14 TB (7 drives x 2 tb each) online in a Raid-5 array (or...

I have been an IT Manager for the past 12 years. I purchased the Qnap TS-439 Pro for personal use about a year ago and have been extremely pleased with all the features, reliability, integration with active directory, etc. Since I had such a great...

None really. Qnap makes some very nice hardware and the latest firmware makes setup and management quite simple. I guess this isn't the most inexpensive option but it is a good one in my opinion. You do get what you pay for and this is no exception

So far, so good

  by N/A (newegg.com) - Mai 2010

newegg.com

Bought primarily as a storage space for images of servers, I've been impressed that with ports aggregated on the QNAP unit, the target server, and the connecting switch, my backup software creates images of ~8-9GB servers in less than 10 minutes. It'd...

Throughput. NIC port aggregation is nice. Many RAID options. Management interface is visually nice, but see below

Certain features, such as AD integration seem quirky. The instructions on what information to enter in which field are vague, which made the domain joining process a hit-or-miss one. Once it joined the domain, however, access and permissions to shares...

QNAP TS-239 Pro NAS

Please do yourself a favor and do your homework before purchasing. Many of the "green" HDDs are not supported and it seems that for those that have tried to go that route, they have had problems. I installed the WD RE3 WD1002FBYS 1TB drives in a RAID-1...

This thing is a rock solid industrial strength storage solution. Right now I am using as a central repository for my business documents, system backup device for my notebook and netbook and media streaming device for music and photos. I intend to...

For me personally, the Linux OS is a bit of a con because of my lack of familiarity with it. I spent 18 years in the business with the last 10 or so with MS servers. Bad choice, I know!. Fortunately the GUI provided gives access to most functions and...

Great NAS for small office

  by ¡Señor geak! (newegg.com) - Dez 2009

Some features require advanced IT knowledge but basic functions can be managed by average users.

Rock solid. Have two WD RE3 WD1002FBYS 1TB hard drives installed in RAID 1 - runs all the time with absolutely no problems. Use 10% capacity as iSCSI target for a Windows SBS 2008 box for additional storage. Also use as storage for all office computer...

i'm still giving this 5 eggs because the itunes issue isn't a big deal for me.

linux! this box is probably not for someone who wants everything to be automatically configured. it comes loaded with features and require a little time to customize everything you want turned on. the later firmwares support 2TB drives

i've had a little trouble with the itunes server. if i don't put a password on it, it can be accessed. if i do, itunes will not access it and won't prompt the user for a password. no response on my forum post and qnap
