Following on from Philips' earlier Skype release, the VOIP321 (Skype), the VOIP841 is the company's latest edition. Essentially two products combined ...
Simple, sleek design, handsfree speakerphone, notable sound quality, no PC required, doubles as a regular landline phone
Restricted to Skype for VoIP calls, ringtones aren't loud enough
Skype users will find plenty to like about the VOIP841. A sleek design, decent call quality and an easy to grasp interface make this a recommended product.

Last year we reviewed Philips Skype handset, the VOIP321, which promised the ability to make Skype calls from a regular DECT-enabled phone rather than having to sit in front of your computer. A couple months on, things move fast in the world of...

Philips' sleek new home phone promises to combine landline and Skype calls in one handset. But how easy is it to use?
A brilliant mix of landline and Skype phones that's easy to use and, in the long run, a real pound-saver

Here at SlashGear we've generally given pretty short shrift to VOIP handsets: all too often they miss the point of their very purpose, to take internet calling out of the realm of the geeky and into the hands of the general public. Common errors...
Does the Philips VOIP841 escape the long-standing SlashGear wrath? It’s a qualified yes, with decent call-quality, technophobe simplicity and common-sense connectivity all counting in its favour. Less impressive, however, is the MSRP of $199, although...

An attractive phone system that will fit in with your home decor and lets you make Skype and traditional landline calls without a computer.
No PC needed. Dual phone. Supports multiple Skype features. Color screen
Fairly expensive

The vast majority of Skype users still make their Internet phone calls through their computers, employing the built-in mic and speakers on their PCs or, better yet, a headset. But as Skype's VOIP (voice-over-IP) service has become the dominant...
The VOIP8411B Skype phone allows Internet and landline calls on one cordless handset ; there's no connection to your PC required for Internet calls ; it's relatively simple to set up, has a slick design, and its phone book stores up to 500 Skype...
The VOIP8411B can't answer a landline call while putting a Skype call on hold (and vice versa), nor can it conference between the two lines
Slick design and mostly solid performance sets the Philips VOIP8411B apart from competing Skype dual-mode phones.

Versatile cordless phone for both Skype and landline calls
Pros: Works with both Skype and landline calls; attractive design; good build quality Cons: Expensive; lacks built-in answerphone Overall: The Philips VOIP841 Internet Phone works well, but the lack of an answerphone is disappointing

Neither of which is via a PC however both require an Ethernet connection, the first the Belkin Ethernet Skype Phone is wired and the second the Philips VOIP 841 has a wireless link to its base station that connects to the router.
This looks exactly like a standard office phone. Looks are deceiving as it is a Skype phone and unlike most other Skype phones needs just one thing an Ethernet port. It is not wireless but wired and probably because of that sound to the caller and...

Reichlich Skype, wenig Festnetz

Perfekt - solange man kein Headset benutzt

You can make and receive Skype and landline calls on a singe device
Bought three of these systems. All worked fine but, after 26 months, one refused to connect to the internet. A few weeks later, another system displayed the same symptom. Philips say 2-year guarantee over. No repair, no exchange, no nothing

The skype functionality of this phone is spot on. If you are big skype user and want to use a conventional phone form factor, this is a great phone. Landline phone functionality is good enough for normal home use
No hold and transfer between skype and landline calls is a minor niggle
