Great Case..Terrible Backplanes

  by N/A (newegg.com) - Mai 2012

newegg.com

Until the issue is resolved.... I would NOT suggest a purchase based on the backplanes themselves... unless you want to hand wire the drives, which is NOT fun, or even close to what the case was designed for.

The case itself is fine for my needs, with plenty of SAS/SATA drive space

(Plenty of SAS/SATA Drive Space)... unfortunately, as others have commented... not a single one of all 3 cases have a functional backplane! Yup, not ONE out of a dozen (X4 Drives each). I even special ordered the Norco cables thinking that was the...

All in all I'm happy with the case. I'm a cheap skate and would never spend more than 329 on a computer case.

Well, the pros.... Cheap , 16 + 2 hard drives. for the money, this case is unbeatable ; Used these cables for the onboard SATA ; 1 x NORCO C-SFF8087-4S Discrete to SFF-8087 (Reverse breakout) Cable - OEM

The cons ; IMPORTANT ; The power Supply mounts on the bottom side of the motherboard!!! You will need a PSU extension ; The slot in the middle of the case ( the wall the fans mount to ) where all the SAS cables are supposed to go through is a little...

A good case for what it is...BUT....

If you are using a redundant power supply you NEED this " 3116_optionalbackwindow " (Google it) or to spend some time with a dremel tool to get the power supply to fit. And ya, I didn't find that part off of norcotek's website until after went and cut...

Cheap case, comfortable space to work on ; Decent air-flow with default fans (noise isn't really an issue when used in an already noisy server room)

The location of the fans make it a PITA to get to the power connections for the backplanes, it could have been setup with the center fan mount being hinged to allow access to the backplanes ; The metal behind the front handles of the case is sharp as...

Great Case

  by N/A (newegg.com) - Mär 2011

If you have the need for lots of storage in in a 3RU case, you can't go wrong with this case.

This case has solid construction, easy assembly, 16 hot swap drive bays with just 4 drive connectors. I built a server with this case, 16 - 2TB drives and a Highpoint 2740 controller. It has been rock solid with no issues. This is my third Noco case....

The midplane fans are noisy (replace them with cheap ball bearing fans) and the case is deep. Make sure your rack is deep enough to support this case. A standard pwoer supply covrs a couple of the motherboard expansion slots so plan accordingly or get...

Beware the backplanes...

by Frank in Miami (newegg.com) - Mär 2011

Aside from some flimsy connectors on the backplanes (honestly, I think they should have been reinforced with something, even if only some plastic brackets), this case is great for my needs.

This case is nice and roomy. Plenty of space for your mobo, PSU, and various fans. I swapped out the stock fans for quieter ones, as the stock fans were rather high pitched and loud. I used this case to build a NAS for my home theater. The NAS sits...

As I was sliding in the HDDs, one of them wouldn't slide all the way in. I slid it out and back in several times, but once it was about 90% of the way into the slot, it would stop. After trying several times, I felt something at the back of the slot...

NORCO RPC-3216 3U Rackmount Server Case - OEM

  by 2twisty (newegg.com) - Okt 2010

The first one of these I received was defective. One of the mounting ears was bent, which made slot#13 impossible to use without mangling the sled when you pulled it out. Also, the first one I got hada broken SAS connector. However, NewEgg did a good...

16-Bay SAS case for $300! That is a definite plus! Drives were easy to mount and install into the system. Excellent cooling! LOTS of airflow

The drive sleds are a bit flimsy, and it is somewhat annoying to only have access to the 1st 4 slots if you want to use an ATX power supply. And the other reviews that say that this case is NOISY aren't kidding. 80% of the noise is coming from the 2...

Solid case for the money.

I'm using this case with an Adaptec 5445 raid card and Chenbro 12803 sas expander card and have, so far, no problems. The raid card detected all 16 drives without trouble. I've recently received a second of these cases I ordered from newegg to daisy...

Great case for the money, roomy, fairly well built

The fans are ridiculous. Not only are they so loud I could hear them outside my house (really) but each one draws 10 times the amperage of a similarly sized 12 computer fan, which probably explains their power. I took one out of the case, set it on a...

Bad design, but it'll work

  by Kent (newegg.com) - Mai 2010

All of the cons really only necessitated a drop of one egg as they are only minor annoyances. You can get a different back window that allows access to all of the motherboard's addon slots, but then a standard power supply won't fit and you have to...

1. 16 SATA II bays (hot swap) ; 2. Standard power supply compatible ; 3. Roomy ; 4. Lots of fans ; 5. Solid construction

1. Came without slim floppy bay ; 2. Power/Reset buttons stick (membrane buttons) ; 3. Molex power connectors held on with hot glue (No kidding!!!) ; 4. Comes with only 4 addon slots ; 5. Power supply overlaps motherboard so some motherboards may not...

Great Value

  by jamesthebard (newegg.com) - Mär 2010

After replacing the four 80mm fans, the sounds has become much more acceptable. I can no longer hear the server outside (not joking) on my balcony. It's a good deal and I would recommend it for anyone who is seriously looking at a serious storage setup...

The chassis is exactly what I was expecting: good value and great features. It's hard to find a case that does all of this without having to sacrifice your first-born to get it. You can also mount three hard drives internally (two 2.5" and one 3.5")

The 80mm fans are very, very loud. After working with servers all day, I came home and installed all the pieces and parts to get it going and was taken aback by the noise. To be fair, however, this is a server chassis and designed to move air, not to...

Awesome Case

  by N/A (newegg.com) - Mär 2010

I'm using a OCZ 500w power supply with some ease, but I'm also only using low power hard drives. I have one complaint, the hard drive space beneath the power supply is a little to snug up against the hard drive, I just shifted the drive, allowing air...

I love this case. It's cumbersome in size, but that is expected with a case for this purpose. Setting up a new home server, and loading it with drives. The chassis is solid in its construction

Biggest, and probably only complaint, is the fans are LOUD. I swapped them out with some basic cheap 80 and 60 mm fans and reduced the noise. Probably don't really need the fans with Seagate LP drives, but I chose to be safe
