Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for iPhone

  by Ross Catanzariti (goodgearguide.com.au) - Feb 2010

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for iPhone is the latest addition to Rockstar's wildly popular GTA series. Featuring great visuals, surprisingly responsive touch-screen controls and hours of fun gameplay, Chinatown Wars for iPhone is great value for...

Great graphics, cartoon-style visuals and cut scenes, large map, connectivity, replay value, good value at this price, custom iTunes music playlists

Driving controls aren't the best, doesn't use the iPhone's accelerometer

Overall, this is without doubt the biggest and most complete gaming experience you'll find on the iPhone. The graphics are impressive, the touch-screen controls are better than we expected and there is no part of the game that’s been downscaled for...

The success of a GTA port for the iPhone was always going to rest on the implementation of good controls. Rockstar has quite a ways to go before it masters this aspect on the iPhone platform.

Great design ; Awesome soundtrack ; Varied gameplay

Mastering on-screen controls is much more difficult than the game mechanics

It is fantastic to see a game of Chinatown Wars' depth on the iPhone, but playing it on Apple's smartphone only makes the difference between the iPhone and a dedicated gaming system all the clearer, and during this review we longed for the DS with its...

Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars for iPhone review

Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars has finally hit the iPhone, almost a year after debuting on the Nintendo DS. And while it's not Rockstar's first game on Apple's blower cum arcade machine, it is its biggest and boldest yet. Is it worth the price of...

Great humour, great graphics, great gameplay

Controls don't port perfectly to a single touchscreen

Real proof that the iPhone can compete with the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars iPhone Review

  by Matt Cabral (atomicgamer.com) - Jan 2010

Rockstar Games' palm-sized Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was one of last year's best portable games. Scratch that. It was the best portable game of 2009—sorry, Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. Whether you love or hate aggregate review score sites...

One of 2009's most under-appreciated efforts gets a third chance at success. And while it's not the best version of the game (that distinction goes to the original on DS), due primarily to its finicky controls and cluttered HUD, it's still a must-play...

In the game, you're Huang Lee, a spoiled kid whose Triad gangster father has taken care of him most of his life. One ambush, however, turns things upside down. Dad gets killed, a prized sword goes missing and all hell breaks loose as Huang fights to...

Hours' worth of missions (and most of them pleasantly violent), terrific graphics bring out the best in the iPhone, five music stations to listen to, a tremendous value for $9.99

Touch-screen interface takes some getting used to, licensed music replaced by instrumentals

Considering the growing popularity of Apple's iPod Touch and iPhone, we knew it would only be a matter of time before Rockstar ported Grand Theft Auto in some form or another. And here it is, a modified version of the hit Nintendo DS/PSP game,...

Honor among thieves is a concept known in any culture, and no criminal organization can last without deep, unquestioning trust among its members. In Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, players discover a betrayal of that trust: corruption that runs to the c

When I originally reviewed Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the DS, part of me wasn't all that thrilled. Sure I gave it 5 stars, but I was really put off by some of the gameplay aspects. It just seemed like too ...

witty, great gameplay, improved graphics, better music, tons of stuff to do

certain controls wonky, short, easy, auto-targeting, no multiplayer, pedestrian sound
