Cisco Valet Plus (M20)

  by Dana Wollman (laptopmag.com) - Apr 2010

This router was designed to cure setup headaches once and for all, but it's not quite foolproof.

Linksys by Cisco’s Valet Plus has an admirable mission: to make the installation of home routers quick and painless. However, while the Valet Plus has a streamlined design, the installation process wasn’t nearly as easy as promised. In total we spent...

Award: Empfehlung der Redaktion!

The unit looks good, but a big pet peeve of mine with Cisco/Linksys routers returns with the Valet Plus: Confusing LED icons. The Valet Plus has the same annoying icons as on most of the current Cisco/Linksys home routers, such as the connectivity...

Unprecedented ease of setup in a router. Good performance. Feature set perfect for a home/family network. Remarkably easy to get other devices on a network connected to it with innovative Easy Setup Key

Throughput still not highest we have seen in this router class. Confusing display icons ; Watch our Cisco Valet Plus video review

Ever wanted a router that's a fast performer but still easy enough for networking newbies to set up? Meet the Cisco Valet Plus.

Cisco Valet Plus Review

  by Michael Brown (maximumpc.com) - Mai 2010

maximumpc.com

Geeks like us invariably get sucked into providing tech support for less tech-savvy friends and family. You know the drill: “Hey, Mike. I just bought this new [insert tech product], but [insert problem]. Can you help me?” Fortunately, there's a...

Nearly idiot-proof setup; guest network; Gigabit Ethernet switch; one year of free 24/7 tech support

Expensive for a single-band router; poor range

In terms of range and TCP throughput, the Valet Plus is a very mixed bag. When we tested it at close range with a Linksys AE1000 USB Wi-Fi adapter, it was about 20 percent slower than our current best-of-the-best router, Netgear’s WNDR3700 paired with...

Nightmare for laptops

  by TKM10657 (cnet.com) - Sep 2011

cnet.com

The simplicity of the item is wonderful, the chances of your computers working well with it are almost slim to none. I am so disappointed. Updated on Sep 11, 2011

It was easy to set up the device, ie. plug it in and with the key, it basically set itself up without a hitch

My 2 laptops that don't have a thing in the world wrong with them, recognize the device, says connection strength is excellent, then they don't connect on ANY level. Have resorted to turning off the device and leaving it off for 3-4 minutes, turning in b

Device broke and service center was unhelpful

  by larrykaplow (cnet.com) - Sep 2011

cnet.com

Rather than take their $15 rebate on a new router, I bought a Belkin router that was also very easy to install and is, so far, working fine.

For about 18 months, maybe more, the device worked well. It was fairly easy to install but about the same as other routers nowadays

Eventually, the desk top computer plugged into one of ethernet cable outlets on the wireless router (the only way to get the desktop online once the Cisco was hooked up to the one modem input) started surfing slower and slower ; Finally, I couldn't ge

Great router, easy setup

  by appell (cnet.com) - Jul 2011

cnet.com

The setup is easy and requires nothing if you are hard wired. As a "hot spot" it has a secure signal and a non-secure "guest" signal. I suppose that if both were being used it would lower your bandwidth. I gave it only 4 stars because of the "safe web...

Really really good

  by omega27131 (cnet.com) - Jul 2011

cnet.com

The price they show on CNET is nowhere near how much I got it for. I got it for about $70 and the cheaper version was only $50. Anyways the performance is pretty decent, and no problems yet.

Honestly, the setup is ridiculously easy, took less than a minute for me to connect to Wifi

Not any cons yet

  by olsmokie (cnet.com) - Jul 2011

Wired never goes out but this router keeps dropping the wireless. I have four laptops and it happens to all of them. Support is non-existant. Stay away from this router.

Incredibly slow speeds

  by haeyre (cnet.com) - Jun 2011

cnet.com

For the same money, there are comparable routers that perform far better than the Valet. If Cisco can fix the performance issues, this would an incredibly easy router to install and use.

Very very easy to set up

Speed and range are so poor that i discontinued using it after 3 months

Don't buy this product, it is terrible.

  by no_name_ideas (cnet.com) - Jun 2011

cnet.com

Don't buy this one, buy something else. I don't ever leave comments about anything and feel strongly enough about this to take the time. I really wish I would have known how many problems people have with it before buying it. Updated on Jun 8, 2011

Ummm.... if I have to pick one it was easy to set up

After set up it was junk. It ran really slow and intermittent until one day it completely quit loading anything. After spending hours on the phone with customer support they replaced it. Same problem with the new one, it runs really really really slow
