Great for secondary drives

  by mario (newegg.com) - Apr 2012

The SATA controller on my Intel motherboard(the 3rd Intel board out of the four I built 4 years ago) is going bad. Bought this thinking I could use it as the primary controller. Doesn't work. Can only use as secondary controller because Windows 7 and...

Great for secondary drives

Can't install Windows 7 or XP when this is the only adapter. Not recognized

SYBA SD-SA2PEX-1E1I

I bought this card because I needed the "hot swap" functionality. The description mentioned "Hot plug of external SATA devices supported." and that's NOT true. I kind feel like I was robbed.

it works with an old HP XW6200

It doesn't supports hot swap in Windows. Devices do not appear under the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon

Works great

I got a RocketRaid card that was bundled with the enclosure that was a total piece of junk. I wrestled with it for quite awhile before I gave up and got this card. I looked at what was used in the BackBlaze pod and got a card with the same chip (Sil3132).

I use it for with a Sans Digital external enclosure with 3 out of five bays occupied. The port multiplier works fine, I'm running a 3 disk software raid5 array through Debian Linux. It recognized the drives right off, and the driver for it was already...

SATA II (not III) ; Only one eSata port ; Neither mattered to me, I think there are more expensive versions that address both of those issues

So far, so good

I bought this as an extra internal port for a Blu-ray drive, so I haven't used it with any Raid function nor for hard drives. But it's working fine for the Blu-Ray drive and that's all I needed. I was already using all 8 of the sata sockets on my board.

Easy install and setup

None so far. It's doing everything I need so far. For some reason, I'm under the impression that you can only use one socket at a time. I thought I read that somewhere before. I've been thinking about an eSata hard drive dock. I need to check and...

Pretty good!

i find it annoying when these marketing people claim a Transfer Rate Up to 3Gb/s' when it has a 2.5Gb/s single lane connection. Why do they do that?

Easy install, small size, works good so far

No serious cons

Will not buy from this company again.

Cheap? small

RAID did not work for me, with 2 1TB WD black drives. I got it set up OK, it appeared to run right, but it was corrupting any data I transferred onto the array. Stopped using it at that point. Tried to re-install some months later to use as a sata...

Works/Linux but...

  by A (newegg.com) - Jan 2011

Again works fine using linux. With windows it probably easier to flash the bios to non raid. Also weird is that I tried raid config and it told me I did not have enough devices (two devices were connected???) If you need to flash the bios fast with no...

The good - It works with Linux no drivers needed...but it is a royal pain in the #$# to change the bios from raid to non-raid. (It comes set to raid) ; This is the reason for a 1 start to balance out the good reviews and to compensate for more hours...

Chances are if you are looking at a sata expansion card you probably want to max out drive bays - MEANING no freaking FLOPPY drive - when will manufacturers realize that in future "NOW" these devices are obsolete. I have three machines all with no...

Works with FreeBSD

  by Thanos (newegg.com) - Dez 2010

If you decide to use this card under FreeBSD with a port multiplier, make sure that your motherboard support AHCI and that you use the ahci.ko kernel module at the boot of the system. I had trouble without it.

Works with FreeBSD 8.1 (use siis.ko kernel module) ; Allow me to use my sata port multiplier (chipset sil3726)

Firmware upgrade only possible under Windows ; Does not detect the drives connected to the port multiplier but allows the Operating System to access them

Works

I haven't tried simultaneous read and writes to connected drivers. I don't use RAID (so don't prompt me during boot!)

Works out of the box on Archlinux (installed drivers for Windows XP)

Sata II speed is throttled by PCIe x1 bandwidth ; Slows down boot by 20 secs, which accounts for the majority of my boot time. There does not appear to be a way of by-passing the controller card's prompt during boot

2 of these CAN work in one system

  by N/A (newegg.com) - Nov 2010

newegg.com

Needed more ports, ran into issues when put into system with onboard intel raid already in place. An in depth discussion on how to make 2 of these work with existing raid and other onboard controller can be found here: tinyurl.com/32xx9al . Takes a...

Adds 2 more ports

Poorly documented - a challenge to get working if other controllers are already present
